Sunderland Volunteer Life Brigade was founded in March 1877 to help save life from shipwreck using rocket apparatus and breeches buoy. Today the Brigade runs a coastal Search and Rescue Service and a Coastwatch. The SVLB Watch House Museum celebrates the history of the Brigade and its place in Sunderland's maritime heritage. Displays include stories of rescues, ship's figureheads, model ships and rescue equipment. There are a variety of children's activities and hot and cold drinks are available.
