'Seek knowledge even as far as China': a celebration of 50 years of the Oriental Museum, Durham
The Oriental Museum was officially opened on 28
th May 1960. This exhibition traces the history of the museum and its collections from its origins in the teaching collections of the University's Department of Oriental Studies to the present day.
The exhibition looks at some of the key figures and major events in the history of the museum and features some of the treasures of the museum's collections not usually on display to the public.

William Armstrong: A Spark of Inspiration
To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Tyneside industrialist and inventor Lord William Armstrong, this new exhibition will track Armstrong's life and achievements.
Born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1810, Armstrong was the inventor of the hydraulic crane as well as being an early advocate of renewable energy. A number of his other inventions, including the Armstrong gun, can also be seen at Discovery Museum.

From Time to Time
FROM TIME TO TIME: strikingly colourful artwork made at Killhope by Jane Foale during her Residency at the museum. Jane’s images respond to the processes and cycles of the area’s mineralogy and mining legacy and are shown alongside some of the objects, stories and materials which inspired and went into making them.
